C6 Umbau - fulingbusen - 19.04.2009

Hallo,

Meine Deucth ist nicht gut, ich hoffe das es ist ok mit Englisch!
I´m not sure if this is the right section of the forum but the moderators can feel free to move it.

I´m not completely sure how this started but I´m pretty sure I got convinced by a friend to import a C6 from the states. The plan was to find an "estitically" challenged C6 and, together with http://www.custommania.se , construct a body kit that looks good and performs well. This kit will be available for purchase in the future. We have a pretty good idea of what it should look like but we are also open for suggestions.

After a couple weeks of looking I "won" an auction:

It was picked up and taken to the docks of California:

To be continued...

Hello Joakim

welcome to the board Yeeah!

sounds like a nice project. when do you expect the vette to arrive in Sweden and when will you be able to post pics from the bodykit?

got already some ideas on drawings or how's the plan?

- fulingbusen - 20.04.2009

Thanks, it seems like a nice forum!

The Vette is in Sweden now, I have a lot of pictures and they will be posted in chronological order.

The idea for the body kit is to keep the beautiful lines that the Z06 has and complement it with side-skirts from C5R, "straighten" the lines of the wheel arches (vertically), work some fins into both front side fenders and modify the lower front lip. Custommania has a lot of racing experience so the influences come from racing even though the car itself will not be built for the track.

Hi Joakim,

your project sounds interesting.

Keep us posted especially with pictures.

Good luck

After the car had taken a little trip around the world (USA-China-Germany-Sweden), it was time to pick it up in Gothenburg.

The battery was dead, I blame the key/sender that was taped to the steering wheel.

Later that night, it had found its new home:

Once in the garage it was time to examine it closer.

The interior needs a clean-up.

The engine sounded good but it was hard to drive since the upper trailer arm on the right side was bent.
I installed a new upper arm and while I was at it a new lower one as well. The lower arm seemed ok but I hade bought one beforehand just in case. The harness had been torn as well as you can see in the picture.

The radiator support had seen better days, I noticed that it had welded with a MIG/MAG. I´m not sure who had tried to do this but I´m pretty sure he was disappointed with his welding skills. It would have saved him a lot of aggrevation if he had noticed that the support is made out of aluminum...

A "new" door and right headlight had been sent with the car, it also needed a driver side door sill, driver side mirror, front harness, and various other small parts.

Here it is "naked"

The first obstacle is to get this car registered in Sweden. For this we are using Z06 parts that will be modified once the car is street -legal.

Here we are constructing moulds out of plaster.

I have focused on putting the rest of the car together but ran into trouble. I have an airbag sensor left-over and can´t seem to find the connection for it. My harness was torn when I got the car so I can´t really compare worth how it was before.

Does anyone have a clue? Perhaps it´s not even supposed to be mounted on the front beam? The plastic in front of the radiator looks like it is also atatched to the beam, perhaps I am missing 2 popnuts in which the plastics are screwed into? My beam has also been replaced and I was too quick in getting rid of the old one. :banghead:

Here's a picture from the service manual. One sensor is on the left, one on the right. The center location is not used. I already had everything removed once when installing the tow hook bracket

Btw, you might want to get a service manual. It also includes collision repair instructions down to the frame. Will surely come in handy for you. In the US it's about $150 and approx. 3000 pages.

Good Luck with that.
