On Wednesday 2nd Shift Paint prepared coupe panels in
the C6’s new color of “sunset orange.” Meanwhile, a C6
convertible in luxo-blue was being assembled in General
Assembly group 17-10.
Last week the 2nd of our non-saleable manufacturing validation builds started. During each bucket build, you should see improvement in both the car parts as well as in the build process. Susan Sweeney, Area Manager of General Assembly stated, “These MVB builds give our operators the opportunity to focus on the build process. We need to make sure that we improve with each car and that every assembler knows his or her job.”
The focus of this build in General Assembly is on the convertible. The power top presents some challenges for our organization. “We’ve had a lot of great suggestions from the floor for the build of the convertible,” said Sweeney. “Everyone has been working together as a team to make progress in assembling this great car.”
There is a lot of activity associated with the builds that we don’t see. Whether it’s panels being painted, tools being installed or parts being ordered by the Material department. It takes a lot of coordination between
different departments and support groups. So far, we’re on schedule to build the 20 vehicles in this bucket.
Here’s some quick facts about the
performance of the C6.
• 0-60: 4.3 Sec (Base)
• 1/4 Mile: 12.6 @ 114 mph
• Top Speed: 180+
• Base Car Acceleration is better than the Legendary ZR-1.
It nearly matches the Z06
• Top Speed Exceeds all Factory Corvettes Ever Produced
• Fuel Economy Labels Expected to Match C5
