Hello Everyone,
My name is Sid Hartsell, I'm a US Soldier stationed in Katterbach and I am in need of some help. My 2002 Coupe lost oil pressure and trashed its engine last October. I have been contemplating a new small block for it, or possibly a crate motor.
I lost oil pressure traveling on A6, pulled over immediately and had the car towed back to my place near Ansbach. My driveway was a little hard for the tow truck driver to make it up, so I had to back my car up the drive way on its own power. It did make oil pressure on startup, then started to slowly bleed back down (probably bad pump), as I was backing it into the driveway, it just died (still had good pressure ~35 PSI). I still had to back it up some more, and when I tried starting it... Bang bang bang. So I ended up pushing it back in with the help of some friends. I started taking it apart, and found that three valves on each head hit a piston (wouldn't be the cause of the oil pressure problem, but definitely something that happened because of it). After pulling the heads, I turned the motor by hand, and noticed the camshaft was not turning (broken timing chain). I still haven't been able to pull the entire engine out of the car, b/c I don't have access to a hoist to lift the engine. But I am pretty sure the entire bottom end is trash. It might be as simple as a spun bearing, but I won't know until I get the engine out of the car, and take it apart.
My question(s) are:
Is there a machine shop in the Ansbach area? I don't mind traveling a bit; I just want to get my car back on the road soon. I will need to have the heads rebuilt, and I want someone to make sure everything is in good shape before I even start pulling the valves off.
Does anyone have any idea of a shop around (Southern Germany) that has a good reputation for building/rebuilding LS1 Engines? Unfortunately, I don't speak much German, and haven't been able to do much searching. If anyone has information, it would be greatly appreciated.
I know this is a long shot... but does anyone have any engine parts for sale, which are in good condition? I will be in need of the entire bottom end (block, crank, oil pump, timing chain and sprocket, pistons, rings, rods, lifters... you get the idea). My lifters might still be good, but I would like to start out with a clean slate.
Does anyone have an engine hoist and stand that they wouldn't mind me renting from them. Trost has them for sale, but I only need it for a little while, and I really don't have room to store it here for the rest of my tour.
Thank you very much for any help you can give.
Very Respectfully,
Sid Hartsell
